What are Renewable Energy Certificates?
Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) are tradable, non-tangible energy certificates that represent proof that 1 megawatt-hour (MWh) of electricity was generated from an eligible renewable energy resource or power plant.

Impact Story
How this Renewable Project impacts the planet?
Large hydro power has been a reliable source of energy in Canada for decades. It is the most mature renewable energy that provides a constant power to the grid. The production is much less volatile than solar and wind production and is therefore essential for achieving fully renewable production in Canada. As hydro plants can be powered up and down easily and fast, they can be crucial for grid stability and can avoid outages and disruptions. In contrast to non-renewable generation, hydro power is not dependent on volatile international fuel markets and reliably produces energy for extremely long lifetimes of more than 100 years. Due to its long lifetimes and often large capacities, it is also an extremely cheap energy source. Construction costs can even be mitigated using preexisting structures like dams, bridges and tunnels.
Large hydro power provides additional benefits to communities like providing flood control, irrigation support, and clean drinking water. Reservoirs often offer recreational activities like fishing, swimming and boating. Advances in hydro plant design ensure that the impact on the environment is minimal.
